Me? I look pretty good for those that think over fifty is a wrinkled old bag!
I am a professional and well educated... at least that's what the records show. I managed to earn my BA in Art at Chico State. (okay, it's still considered a real college no matter what kind of rep it has.), I opened & closed a fabric store in Auburn, I worked in restaurants & the mortgage industry for 6 more years, then married. I had a terrific daughter & played domestic engineer for 5 years while earning a second degree & two credentials in education. I am now going into my 22nd year of working my tail off teaching 9 months & playing hard the other three. I have found that I'm not only an out of the box thinker; I sometimes have a hard time finding that box others find comfort in. It drives administration nuts, but the kids & parents love me. I was awarded the 'big mahooney' Mostly Different Teacher of the Year award twice now because of my unique thinking... or I guess I was the only teacher in Placer County that didn't get any awards yet and they felt sorry for me. I enjoyed a free rubber chicken dinners because of it! (Hey, budgets are tight!) To top my career off, I was invited to China to teach in the summer of 2005 to ruin foreign kids too! My daughter went along and ended up teaching at age fifteen. (I was proud mom!) What an excellent experience for both os us... but I don't care for their toilets. Teaching Ukraine kids was on the list for this last summer, 2014, but the little Civil War kinda put the Kahbosh on that puppy. Oh well, hopefully in the future?
One of my first students has graduated college... (top of her class of course), became my student teacher and now is teaching in our district!!! (So cool!) My life has gone full circle. I will know it is time to retire when a student shows up in my classroom and says the magic words, "My Mom had you as her teacher!"
I have been lucky enough to have traveled to 16 countries in the world and 35 states in the US & will keep adding to that score. I am newly single and very happy... life is so good for my daughter and I. I am proud to say that she is finishing college in Eco Science and I will be gladly taking large donations to cover her college fees or work until I'm 84 to pay them off? (Remember Mr. Heckle - movies & Zzz? He put his kids through college too.)
Jeannie is also going to bring me my first beautiful grandchild for the Fall of 2014! Let the out of control spoiling of the grandchild begin!... well, maybe I should say continue?
In between all the fun above, I opened up a personal training gym with my niece, Guidingfitness! We've been open now for 5 years and business is booming! Not only do we serve many members of our community to get lean and happy, we are on our second year of getting all the teachers in Western Placer School District fit and healthy. We are the examples for all of our futures. I love this job and the bennifits are incredible... plus I get to work out for free? Check us out! Guidingfitness.com.
I hope you all are happy and successful & I look forward to seeing you or hearing from you!
Good life to you all,
